Tag 8 got behind our national team when United 4 Bafana Bafana wristbands were distributed in select universities nationwide. Students received a free wristband when they bought a coffee on campus. The band presents a fun and cost effective way for all South Africans to pledge their support for Bafana Bafana.
SLAM (SAFA Legal and Management) appointed Page Three Media to manage the strategic media planning for the United 4 Bafana Bafana campaign, and university students were one of the groups targeted. Tag 8 Media, with their extensive campus coffee network, was a natural partner to activate this promotion.
“A United 4 Bafana Bafana Wristband is a symbol of unity and this campaign is a vehicle to rally the nation behind our boys. We chose to hand them out at universities to get the youth involved, they are our future leaders of tomorrow and a major part of soccer loving fans. It’s time for all Bafana Bafana supporters to come together and unite. SHAPA BAFANA BAFANA SHAPA!”
Shavani Chetty, Brand Category Manager, SLAM
“This campaign was a sporting way to get students behind our national soccer side, and build up excitement and patriotism as we lead up to the Soccer World Cup 2010. By running an activation such as this one, we are opening ourselves up to infinite media possibilities in the coffee space.” Says Kerryn Felt, Tag 8 Media.
Wristbands were distributed across UCT, Stellenbosch, WITS, Tukkies and Monash universities, and posters featuring well known South African celebs in the national team colours were displayed.
